Greg Jones has played drums semi-professionally since 1984 in
numerous original bands throughout the tri-state area. Cutting
his teeth in New York City and Long Island for eight years as the
drummer for Trial By Fire, his unique style on the instrument was
singled out in every review of the band’s 4 records and his
compositions garnered the band’s most frequent radio play
(with the song “Striving After Wind” being selected
as the theme for a weekly cable TV discussion show). After meeting
his longtime heroes Steve Morse and Rod Morgenstein of the Dixie
Dregs, Greg was inspired to form a progressive rock band
called Threshold to play his increasingly melodic and ambitious
songs that caught the interest of Atlantic Records after a label
representative witnessed a live performance at a NYC street fair
in which jaded passers by that barely paused for the other 8
bands on the bill became a completely stopped mass of wildly applauding converts. When
various members’ work and family commitments caused this
popular local act to split, Greg moved to the LeHigh Valley and
met rising local guitar legend Karl Eisenhart. After toiling in
a few cover bands together, they enlisted the services of the classically
trained multi-instrumentalist Bill Fox and PINNACLE was born. Greg
still considers himself a student of his instrument and says his
best work is “still ahead, God willing”.
